Wang Yi Meets with Chairman of Indonesia’s National Economic Council Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan

On September 17, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Chairman of Indonesia’s National Economic Council Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in Beijing.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings to President Prabowo Subianto, stating that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership has continued to deepen and grow. Last month, we launched the first meeting of the China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue mechanism and convened the Second Ministerial Meeting of the China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Dialogue, through which the two sides enhanced mutual understanding and trust. China and Indonesia are both major countries and representatives of emerging economies. Deepening strategic communication and strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries serve the interests of the two peoples and carry important implications beyond bilateral relations. China is glad to see Indonesia accelerate its development and revitalization, and is ready to work with Indonesia to advance the collective strength of the Global South through unity and self-reliance, and to play the role of major developing countries in building a more just and equitable global governance system.

Wang Yi stated that China-Indonesia cooperation not only has a solid foundation but is also demonstrating new prospects. The two countries should strengthen the alignment of development strategies and promote the transformation and upgrading of cooperation. China is ready to open up cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, biopharmaceuticals and information technology on the basis of traditional cooperation in energy and mining, infrastructure and industrial parks, and strengthen educational exchanges and talent training. President Prabowo Subianto’s decision for Indonesia to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization is a wise choice. China is ready to work with Indonesia to promote the upward and good, inclusive development of artificial intelligence. China is willing to help Indonesia enhance its capacity for self-driven development and accelerate its modernization process. It is also hoped that Indonesia will create a favorable environment and provide strong policy support for the long-term and stable development of Chinese enterprises in Indonesia. It is hoped that the National Economic Council under your leadership will continue to make new contributions to bilateral relations, especially to the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan conveyed President Prabowo Subianto’s sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping, stating that Indonesia attaches great importance to relations with China, and that the friendship and mutual trust between the two countries are profound. China is the most reliable and long-term strategic partner in Indonesia’s development process. Indonesia’s development cannot be separated from China’s support and participation, and the friendly cooperation between the two countries is increasingly taking root in the hearts of the Indonesian people. Indonesia hopes to learn from China’s successful experience in implementing the 15th Five-Year Plan, strengthen cooperation with China in strategic emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, healthcare, advanced manufacturing and digital finance, as well as in mining and talent training, and explore joint production, research and development, and innovation. Indonesia is ready to work with China to effectively translate the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries into more practical cooperation outcomes, so as to better benefit the two peoples.
