Gaza Crisis Deepens as Flour Supplies Hit Catastrophic Low

(MENAFN) The Gaza Strip requires approximately 450 tons of flour each day to meet its population's basic needs, yet only around 200 tons are currently being supplied — a shortfall that authorities warn is pushing the territory deeper into crisis, Gaza's government media office announced Sunday.

Israel is deliberately tightening flour supplies as part of what the office characterized as a calculated policy of "engineered starvation" targeting Gaza's civilian population, according to a statement released by the office.

Although the existing ceasefire agreement mandates the entry of 600 trucks daily, Israel is permitting only 38% of pre-war supply volumes to cross into the territory, the office said.

The situation deteriorated further after World Central Kitchen suspended its flour distribution operations in Gaza. The US-based humanitarian organization had previously delivered between 20 and 30 tons daily. Simultaneously, the World Food Program slashed its own flour shipments from 300 to 200 tons per day. Several additional aid organizations have also suspended their bread and flour assistance programs to the enclave, compounding an already dire supply crisis.

Approximately 1.9 million of Gaza's 2.4 million residents remain internally displaced, living in deteriorating tents under harsh conditions following the wholesale destruction of their homes during more than two years of Israeli military operations.

Despite a ceasefire that came into force on Oct. 10, 2025, daily living conditions have seen little meaningful improvement, as Israel continues to fall short of its commitments to allow agreed-upon levels of humanitarian aid — encompassing food supplies, medical equipment, and shelter materials — into the besieged territory.

The war on Gaza has now killed more than 72,000 Palestinians and wounded approximately 172,000 others, while laying waste to roughly 90% of the enclave's civilian infrastructure.
