US urges Syrian forces to stop offensives actions between Aleppo, Tabqa
In a public statement, US Central Command said: "We welcome ongoing efforts by all parties in Syria to prevent escalation and pursue resolution through dialogue. We also urge Syrian government forces to cease any offensive actions in areas between Aleppo and al-Tabqa.”
The statement further stressed that defeating ISIS (Daesh) effectively depends on coordination and joint action, noting that “aggressively pursuing ISIS (Daesh) and relentlessly applying military pressure” requires cooperation among Syrian partners working alongside US and coalition forces, according to reports.
Earlier this month, on Jan. 13, the Syrian military declared several areas west of the Euphrates River—most notably Deir Hafir and Maskanah—to be military zones, stating that they were under the control of the YPG/SDF group.
On Saturday, Syrian forces said they had taken control of the town of Dibsi Afnan and were advancing toward the city of Tabqa in Raqqa province. The army also announced that it had established complete military control over Deir Hafir and Maskanah in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, according to reports.
These developments coincided with statements by Ferhat Abdi Sahin, identified as a leading figure within the YPG/SDF group targeted by the operation west of the Euphrates, who claimed that armed elements would begin withdrawing to areas east of the river starting at 7 a.m. local time (0400 GMT).
In a related political development, reports recalled that in March 2025 the Syrian presidency announced an agreement aimed at integrating the YPG/SDF organization into state institutions, reaffirming Syria’s territorial unity and rejecting any attempts to divide the country.
