India examines-launches new nuclear-capable missile

(MENAFN) India has successfully conducted a test of its Agni-5 ballistic missile, a nuclear-capable intermediate-range system capable of striking targets up to 5,000 km (3,106 miles) away, the Defense Ministry announced Wednesday. The test, carried out from the Integrated Test Range in Odisha, reportedly validated all operational and technical parameters.

The Agni-5 can be launched from mobile platforms and is equipped with advanced guidance systems, allowing it to deliver nuclear warheads with high precision. Its range covers nearly all of Asia and parts of Europe.

India has previously deployed missiles in the Agni series from Agni-1 to Agni-4, with ranges between 700 km and 3,500 km (435–2,175 miles). In recent months, the country has also tested the Prithvi-II and Agni-I short-range nuclear-capable missiles, as well as the newly developed Pralay tactical missile.
