China Rejects Any Trade Agreement That Compromises Its Interests
(MENAFN) A spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Commerce stated Saturday that Beijing opposes "any deal" made "at the expense of China’s interests for so-called tariff relief."
"If that happens, China will never accept it and will resolutely counter to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests," the spokesperson added.
This follows comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday, where he declared that Washington "can do whatever" it "wants" regarding the flexibility of the original deadline for a 90-day tariff reprieve, which is set to expire on July 9. Trump also suggested he would "like to just send letters out to everybody: ‘Congratulations, you’re paying 25 percent’."
The Chinese spokesperson also pointed out that since April, the U.S. "has imposed the so-called 'reciprocal tariffs' on its global trading partners." "This is a typical example of unilateral bullying, which has severely undermined the multilateral trading system and disrupted the normal international trade order. China has always firmly opposed such actions," they emphasized.
In contrast, Beijing advocates for "all parties to resolve economic and trade differences with the US through equal consultations," and encouraged all nations to "always stand on the side of fairness, justice, and historical correctness," stressing the importance of defending international economic and trade rules, along with the multilateral trading system.
Additionally, President Trump confirmed on Thursday that the U.S. had signed a trade agreement with China, though details were not immediately disclosed. Beijing followed up on Friday, confirming the framework for implementing the trade consensus from the Geneva talks with the U.S.
